Our top tips for autumn garden prep!

As autumn is just around the corner, it’s important that you prepare the garden for the new season as soon as possible. The summer months may have taken their toll on your garden and green spaces, so it’s the perfect time to roll up your sleeves, get outside and give them the love and attention they deserve to make sure they stay in tip top condition during the cold, wet weather that’s fast approaching!

Here at Cobra, we know just how important it is to prepare the garden as we progress into autumn, so we’ve put together our top maintenance tasks to help keep your green space stay healthy this autumn.

Clear up debris

During the summer, all sorts of debris may have found itself on the grass or in borders, including foliage, branches and even fruit from fruit trees. Make sure to gather it all up before autumn arrives as the debris covers the grass, creating a cold and damp environment, which can encourage lots of nasty pests and diseases – so be quick and collect it all up!

For a quick and effortless clear up, our BV6040V is a high performance blower vacuum that will help make your clear up a breeze! The lightweight model offers a cordless, battery powered blower vac that takes the backache out of garden maintenance, with the absence of petrol or wires making maintenance quick and stress-free.

Prune and trim hedges

Both deciduous and evergreen hedges require trimming and pruning around this time of year because active growing has stopped. Pruning prevents any of the dead or dying branches from harming nearby plants, while trimming keeps hedges dense and compact. Make sure that  birds aren’t nesting in the hedges before getting to work, though! It’s an offence to damage or destroy nests while they’re being used or built, so give all hedges a thorough check before getting the trimmers out!

Looking for the right trimmer? The H5024V battery powered hedgetrimmer is built to tackle the most unruly hedges, with its 50cm double sided blades making light work of hedge maintenance and shaping. If you’re dealing with larger hedges, it’s Eco Mode offers a quieter and longer run, allowing for uninterrupted trimming.

Shred the waste away

Trimming often involves removing large branches and twigs, but shredding them into smaller, manageable pieces can make them easier to dispose of. Shredded wood materials make an excellent mulch for plants too, and when mixed with nitrogen-rich grass cuttings, it can also be used as compost to help other areas of your garden flourish! Make sure not to include and diseased branches when shredding undamaged debris, though, as this could cause the disease to spread.

Our QS2500 offers a simple and effortless way to shred garden waste, with its 2500W motor and 40mm cutting capacity. Plus, with a practical plunger, it’s easier to push through heavier loads.

Let lawns breathe!

As the summer draws to a close, grass may be feeling quite tired and compact after months of heavy use. Aerating is the most effective way of reliving this compaction to create a luscious lawn the following spring, and with our SA32E electric powered scarifier, it’s simple to do!

It not only provides a robust scarifier, but a bladed aerator, with 12 high quality steel blades reaching deep into the soil, which is vital for vital elements, such as water, air and nutrients, to penetrate the root and encourage a vibrant, thick lawn.
